Truck’s head stripped off by striking workers

Scrap collectors were 'on standby' to stip it off.

VANDERBIJLPARK. The head of a truck was set alight in the early hours of the morning at corner Noble road and Frekkie Meyer Boulevard near Boipatong yesterday, 19 May.

Those near the scene suspected that union members, who are ArcelorMittal employees, and on national strike might have caused the fire. Members of the NUNSA have embarked on strike demanding a 10% salary increases since 11 May. The Spokesperson of NUMSA, Phakamile Hlubi – Majola said that the steel company wanted to negotiate for an increase of 7% and that the workers refused to bargain for such an increase.

Immediately after the hot steel of the truck’s head cooled down, the ‘vultures of the iron’, scrap collectors, were already on ‘standby’ and they started stripping the burned truck’s head leaving it with only the top of the engine as everything was ripped  off to be sold for scrap, only the trailer survived.
