SEDIBENG.- Gauteng African National Congress (ANC) has said that it is extremely saddened by the news of the passing of  former Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Moerane, who was involved in a car accident on Monday, May 9.

Moerane served as Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, before the Local Government Elections of November 2021 and also as a Regional Treasurer of the ANC in Johannesburg before the REC was converted into the RTT where he was currently serving as it’s Fundraiser. Gauteng ANC said that Moerane dedicated his entire life to the struggle of the people.

“Comrade Mpho Moerane became actively involved in politics from his youth days. The Alexander born became an activist that was highly conscious of the difficulties faced by his community and that burned the fire inside him even more. He went on to lead and served the African National Congress in numerous capacities from Branch, Zone and ultimately the Region. In all his responsibilities, he served with dignity and honour,” the party said.

Moerane  served the people of Johannesburg as MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, and later elected the Executive Mayor in the City of Johannesburg and Leader of Caucus after the November 2021 Local Government Elections.

“The ANC as an organization has lost an activist that genuinely cared and dedicated his life to the service of the people.
