800 suspects arrested during okae molao operations in Gauteng districts

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety,  Faith Mazibuko joined the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela as he led the multi-disciplinary integrated Operation O Kae Molao over the weekend. 

GAUTENG. – The operation resulted in the arrest of more than 800 suspects throughout the province.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello says, “The weekly operation is conducted simultaneously in five districts in the province with the aim of fighting any criminal activities and restoring law and order in the province.

“The Provincial Commissioner and the MEC, this week led the one that was held in Yeoville in Johannesburg District where various crime prevention actions such as roadblock, stop and searches, compliance inspection of liquor outlets, including tracing of wanted suspects were conducted and resulted in the arrest of 239 suspects.”

In other  Districts,  Commissioners also continued with the operation at their respective districts with the support of other law enforcement agencies.

“During these operations, several seizures were made, including liquor from illegal liquor outlets, drugs, dagga and unlicensed firearms.

“Some of the arrested suspects were released on fines, while the others are expected to start appearing at different Magistrates’ court from Monday, 09 May 2022.”
