Mhlathe mourns the relegation of the once mighty Jomo Cosmos

The last kick of a major horse.

SEDIBENG.- Former Jomo Cosmos player, Lucky Mhlathe is mourning the relegation of his former club which was recently relegated to the lower division, ABC Motsepe League.

Cosmos was relegated to the ABC Motsepe League after playing a 1-1 draw against TS Sporting over the weekend.

Mhlathe is another player from the Vaal who became a household name after being discovered by club boss Jomo Sono. The speedy winger was 15-years-old when he was spotted at Mill Park Stadium playing for the Safa Vaal Regional team. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mhlathe said he is heartbroken to see Jomo Cosmos being relegated to the lower division after so many years in the top flight football. He said that this is a team that gave him a lifeline as a teenage and  he become a household name in South African football. However, Mhlathe told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he saw this coming, and it didn’t come as a surprise for Cosmos to be relegated. He said that he blames Jomo Sono for the situation that he finds himself in at the moment.

“It is heartbreaking for a team like Jomo Cosmos to be lost in  South African football. There will never be another team like Jomo Cosmos in South Africa. This is the club that gave me everything and if it wasn’t of Bra J I don’t think I could have turned professional. This club made me the person who I am today, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity Bra J gave me. I went to play overseas because of Bra J and for that I will always be grateful,” he said.

Mhlathe who is now making a name for himself as a Super Sport Football Channel analyst told Sedibeng Ster Sport  that he used to organise youngsters to go and play against Jomo Cosmos for Jomo Sono to scout some.
