Midvaal takes service delivery to Hartz Valley

Grass was cut, weeds were pulled out and roads were patched up and remarked on Thursday 3rd of March 2022 as part of the Midvaal Local Municipality’s ongoing Mayoral Service Delivery Thursdays Campaign.

Having already visited areas such as Walkerville, Ohenimuri and Daleside previously, workers from the municipality this time focussed their attention on Hartz Valley in the Warkeville Area, as well as other areas in Ward 7 to deliver services to residents of the municipality.

This quaint rural area lies in the northern edges of the Midvaal Local Municipality, just south of Johannesburg along the Old Johannesburg Road (R82). According to the Midvaal Local Municipality other areas that were visited as part of this week’s leg of the campaign includes Tedderfield West, Tedderfield Central and East, Walkerville, Golfview and Kromraai. Speaking on behalf of the Midvaal Local Municipality, Cllr Patricia Pretorius, the Midvaal MMC for Finance who is also acting mayor for the time being (Mayor Peter Teixeira is currently on a visit to Cape Town) said: “The whole aim of Mayoral Service Delivery Thursdays campaign is to concentrate all of our people in one area so that service delivery can be noted and can be felt by the people on the ground. “It is good and well to speak about it (“sevice delivery”), but they need to feel it!”

During their visit workers from various departments of the Midvaal Local Municipality cut grass, patched and remarked roads and pulled out weeds. According to Pretorius the electrical department was not present as the area is supplied directly by Eskom. Addressing workers ahead of the service delivery campaign, Pretorius said: “It is you people on the ground that make Midvaal so proud. “You make us proud because you work hard and the community can see the results of your work.

“Because of that the community stand by us, they pay their rates and taxes and therefore Midvaal can pay Eskom, we can pay Rand Water and we can pay your salaries every month, unlike your neighbours, who didn’t get their salaries at the end of February. “Let’s go out today and let the community see us. Hopefully they give you a wave and a smile as they pass by,” Pretorius said in conclusion.
