‘Walk a Child to School’ changes innocent pupils’ lives

The successful ‘Walk a Child to School’ project is a non-profit initiative which saw to it that 228 pairs of shoes and socks were donated to the pupils of Lehutso Primary School in Zamdela, Sasolburg recently.

ZAMDELA –  The initiator of the project, Lepota Mmoyane, said they have set a standard to improve the lives of the pupils.

“Looking at the condition that some of the pupils found themselves in at school, we cannot shy away from putting out a helping hand.

“It is our mission and vision, to change the lives of the learners. Once a learner is not in a good condition, he or she would lose concentration in the classroom.”

‘Walk a Child to School’ started with a soccer tournament aimed at engaging parents. The shoes were donated during the tournament hosted at the Themba Lethu sports ground.

“To date, at least five schools have benefited from the shoes and socks,” said Lepota.

Speaking about the aim to launch a tournament, he said that this was to encourage the community to donate, Lepota said they strictly collect shoes, not money.

“Any members of the community who wanted to contribute, had to buy shoes and socks only. There’s no formality in terms of position, no sponsors as we do it out of love.”
