Three steps to revitalise your job

Reignite your love for your job and find new motivation with these steps.

Maybe it’s because of the turmoil of living in lockdown for the past two years or the stresses of homeschooling the kids while trying to be productive in your make-shift home office. Or maybe you have been telling yourself to just get through 2021 and 2022 will be better and you will feel more motivated to do the job you once loved.

If you are feeling flat and can’t get your head into the right workspace, you are not alone. A Microsoft survey of more than 30,000 global workers showed that 41% of workers were considering quitting or changing professions this year.

While it might be tempting to think the grass is greener on the other side, why not try to water the garden you are currently in and you might be surprised by the results. Talent Strategist, Leadership & HR Expert and Executive Coach, Anja van Beek, shares three tips to help get you back on track at your current job.

 Find a mentor (or two)

Having a go-to person to soundboard your ideas, speak to for advice and gather life and career lessons is worth gold! Building a network and sharing knowledge to help each other is key to revitalising yourself and your work. Surround yourself with mentors who can help guide you both at work and in your private life.

Reignite your spark

Finding meaning in your work and understanding your purpose is key to optimize your performance. Realine your state of mind and be aware of how you think about things. Put yourself in a positive space. Rather than focusing on your weaknesses and thinking you have to fix them, build on your natural strengths and passions and show your boss and colleagues how you can contribute to the team and benefit the work environment. Make a list of the activities and tasks you generally do during the week and highlight the ones that make you do effortlessly and enjoy. These are your strengths. Now think about how you can use these strengths to serve your job. It might be helping others or problem solving.

Shape your career mosaic

Take ownership of your growth and development in a company by showing initiative. Don’t wait for the manager to start talking about your future. Take the lead and be open about your aspirations and career dreams.
