“We don’t see some of these teams finishing the league”: Club’s Chairman

Some of these teams suffer heavy defeats every week to show that they are not ready to compete at this level and deserved to be relegated to the lower divisions.

SEDIBENG.- Some Safa Sedibeng SAB League teams believe the standard of the SAB League is deteriorating due to the teams that were promoted to the league when they were not ready to compete at this level.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the team’s owners said the region made a big mistake by increasing the number of teams in the SAB League. They believe that some of the teams were not ready to compete at this level and results are there for everyone to see.

They told Sedibeng Ster Sport that some of those teams don’t honour their fixtures.

As if this is not enough, the teams’ owners also questioned Safa Sedibeng for not relegating those teams that finished at the bottom of Stream A and B last season.

At the end of the 2020/2021 season, it was suggested that no teams would be relegated, and the league would be increased to 24 teams.

Some of these teams suffer heavy defeats every week to show that they are not ready to compete at this level and deserved to be relegated to the lower divisions.

“I must say, I’m very disappointed because now this league has become a joke with some teams even not bothering to honour their fixtures.

“I don’t see some of them finishing the season and this is going to affect us at the end of the season. Look, even Super League teams are much better compared to some of these SAB League teams, with due respect,” said the club official who didn’t want their name to be mentioned.

Another club’s official told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the decision to increase the number of the teams in SAB League and not relegate the teams that finished at the bottom of the log had nothing to do with football but the interest of individuals.

“I know Sedibeng Ster Sport has been following SAB League games and you tell me some of those teams deserve to play in SAB League? Whoever came up with this idea to increase the number of teams in the SAB League didn’t do justice to our football. I’m afraid once again no team will be promoted to ABC Motsepe League at the end of the season because our league is very weak.

“There is no way we are going to compete with other regions because our league is poor,” said a club chairman who also didn’t want his name to be mentioned for fear of reprisals.

Safa Sedibeng Regional Executive Officer, Beauty Molise said she raised this issue in a meeting but there was nothing that she could have done. “The proposal was good, but I was worried about the timing.

I was aware that this was going to compromise the standard of our league,” said Molise.
