Man appears in court for wife’s murder

Murder accused Sakhile Phangalele from Tshepiso Phase 4 recently made an appearance at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate Court for a formal bail application

VANDERBIJLPARK. – .Phangalele was arrested for brutally murdering his wife Alice Mpona Matubatuba (38) in December 2021.

The incident happened in Tshepiso Phase 3. It is reported that Phangalele was caught by members of the community while hiding at his place of residence following the gruesome act of murdering his estranged wife.

The suspect was hospitalized after he was given a beating by members of the community who were appalled after finding out that he was wanted for killing his wife. On Tuesday, members of the community were seen holding placards and chanting, saying that they were against the suspect being granted bail.

Community leader and resident of Phase 4 known to Ster said residents were happy to hear that Sakhile was remanded behind bars. The community said that they attended the hearing in numbers in support of Mpona.

“Our mission is to make sure that the Magistrate will not grant the suspect bail.”

Magistrate Mnisi postponed the bail hearing to 14 February 2022.
