Talent is in abundance at Lekoa

"It has not been an easy journey. I have been in accidents that almost took my life, slept in studios and still pushed on."

SEDIBENG.- It has always been a given that talent is in abundance in Sedibeng (Vaal Triangle), hence it comes as no surprise that Lekoa FM Radio presenter, Kenneth Zakathi (32), has been nominated in the Best Radio Presenter Category of the provincial level of the Mzansi Arts & Media Awards 2021.

Mzansi Arts & Media Awards serve as a platform to uplift upcoming artists and creatives in South Africa. The awards are there to recognize the work of fellow upcoming artists and creatives. Besides the prizes the awards also enable artists to check on their progress in building a solid fan base.

Zakhathi started his radio journey back in 2015 working with the then gospel Hope FM as a Programs Manager. In 2008 he joined Thetha FM and was mentored by the likes of Lehlohonolo Menyatso as an 18-year-old first year student at Jeppe College back then.

“I have since worked with the likes of the now departed Daniel ‘Dazz’ Rakhokho, Thabo Tshoagong and Bathulisile Tugela as an intern then. I had the pleasure of meeting a giant in the industry, the Late Eddie Zondi and got a lot of mentoring from him.”

He thanks Lekoa FM Founder and Station Manager, Reggie Banda, and his wife for the opportunity that they have given him, and:

“Trusting me with their platform. It has not been an easy journey. I have been in accidents that almost took my life, slept in studios and still pushed on. I could’ve given up so many times, but I pushed until now. This award will mean so much to me as it will be a fulfilling token of all the struggles I went through over the years.”
