Police urge stokvel members to vigilant

"We are therefore urging members of stokvel clubs to share their savings via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), instead of withdrawing large amounts of money."

SHARPEVILLE. – Police Spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango has urged members of various stokvel clubs to be vigilant.

Sango’s warning comes after a recent incident where a large sum of money was seized by robbers on the day stokvel members were meant to receive their dividents.

“In some cases where stokvel members are robbed, information is often leaked from inside.

“We are therefore urging members of stokvel clubs to share their savings via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), instead of withdrawing large amounts of money.”

Sango said that those who couldn’t make use of bank services should rather go to their nearest police station and ask to share their money there.

“The festive season is upon us and criminals are waiting for any opportunity to make a quick buck. Please remain alert and ask for the assistance of the police.” Sango concludes.
