Mamelodi Sundown’s queens make SA proud

“We are not here for ourselves, but we are representing millions of South African back home especially those involved women football."

SEDIBENG. – With Bafana Bafana yet again failing to qualify to the FIFA World Cup, Mamelodi Sundowns women’s team made the country proud when they secured a spot in the Semi-finals of CAF Women’s Champions League.

This is after team played to a goalless draw against FAR Rabat and finished as a group winner over the weekend.

Sundowns Ladies have represented South Africa with distinction in this women’s continental champions tournament which comes to an end this Saturday in Cairo, Egypt.  Sundowns won their first two opening games and played to a goalless draw to finish to in their group and book their place in the Semi-final.

Mamelodi Sundowns Coach, Jerry Tshabalala said that this is the biggest achievement not only for the club but also for South African women football. Tshabalala said this is the beginning for South African women football to dominate the African football both at national and club level. He said Sundowns Ladies was inspired by Banyana Banyana’s recent achievements to do well in this competition.

“We are not here for ourselves, but we are representing millions of South African back home especially those involved women football. We are overwhelmed by the support we receive back home, and we want to thank all South African people for their support. Look, every day we receive encouraging messages from South Africans that is why we are in the Semi-finals of this tournament.

“It is not easy tournament, but I must say, I’m very proud of our girls for their fighting spirit since the beginning of the tournament. South Africa is well represented, and everyone understands that we are not here for ourselves but to represent our country. Finishing as the group winners is a biggest achievement for us taking into consideration, we were up against the best in our group, but we managed to come out on top. We want to thank everyone back home for their support and please keep on sending those messages because we are where we are now because of your support,” said Tshabalala.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns face Malabo Kings Ladies in the Semi-final battle at El Salam Stadium this evening. Kick off time is at 19:00. In the other Semi-final match, Hasaacs Ladies go against FAR Rabat at 16:00
