Sheriff attaches ELM fleet

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The Sheriff of the Court attached Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) fleet of vehicles following a labour dispute yesterday.
It is said that the dispute comes after employees who were moved to a higher salary scale never received their increased salaries and allowances.
The Democratic Alliances’ (DA) Emfuleni Local Municipality Caucus Leader Tebogo Tlhokwe said that the employees were granted an order for the municipality to pay them a total of R28 million in back pay.
The attachment of the municipal vehicles comes a month after Eskom attached the municipal bank accounts due to non-payment the municipality.
“The attachment of these municipal vehicles means that the municipality will not be able to provide critical service delivery such as dispatching officials to attend to maintenance and other essential upgrades that may be needed. Yesterday, a delegation compromising of Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, Johannesburg Mayor, Mpho Moerane, MEC of COGTA, Lebohang Maile, Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, and Deputy Minister Mahlobo as well as Deputy Minister Magadzi visited Emfuleni and yet nothing was resolved.”
