Boipatong Memorial Games a great success

This event was organised by former soccer players in honour of those they played with and against who have since passed on.

BOIPATONG.- The Boipatong community packed the Boipatong Stadium into capacity to watch the Memorial Games on Heritage Day. These memorial games were held to honour ex-soccer players who have since departed this world.

It was a great day for football with football activities being held throughout the day with young and old coming in numbers to support this initiative.  This event was organised by former soccer players in honour of those they played with and against who have since passed on. Some of the notable names that were honoured on the day include former Free State Stars legend, Meshack “Maradona” Tsotetsi and Boipatong Real Rangers FC Head Coach, Cwezeni Mthimkhulu who made history when he took the club to the Bob Save Last 16.

The games also formed part of Heritage Day with men and women dressed in their their traditional attires in celebration of this day. Lehlohonolo Manzane, who is one of the organisers and a former Boipatong Real Rangers player hailed this event as a success.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Manzane said that he was overwhelmed by the support from the Boipatong community. He said that the community made this day a great success by coming in big numbers.

COVID-19 regulations and protocols were the order of the day.

“We want to thankeveryone who was a part of this event. We intend to make this event an annual event and attract more sponsors in the years to come. I have no doubt that in the coming years it will be bigger and better with the support of the local businesspeople,” Manzane concluded.
