‘We want to improve Boipatong’s economy’ : Itireleng Task Team

"We don’t clean only open spaces but also streets and yards especially for the elderly people."

BOIPATONG.- The Itireleng Task Team has turned Boipatong area into a small heaven cleaning every corner of the townships. Apart from cleaning the open space and streets, Itireleng Task Team helps elderly people to clean their yards. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Parks Mofokeng said their aim is to turn Boipatong into a clean environment, to be become a place to attract tourists taking into consideration the political history of the township.
The 1992 Boipatong Massacre will remain the historical tragedy took place in this area with an estimate 42 people were killed on that night.

Mofokeng said they have cleaned the area and created parks for the people of Boipatong especially for young children to spend their weekends.

“We want to turn each an every dumping space into a community park like we did with the open space next to Lebohang Secondary School. The space was a dumping space for the community but now it is a beautiful community park. We are proud to see what we have done for Boipatong people, young and old. We don’t clean only open spaces but also streets and yards especially for the elderly people. Look, we are not paid to do this but as Itireleng Task Team want to see our area competing against the best in terms of cleanness. We will leave no stone unturned to make sure this area attracts tourists because we have Monument. The intention is also to improve the township economy because this is President Cyril Ramaphosa’s wish. We want to thank Cap Gate and our local Councillor for their support to make this project a success. Gape Gate has been supportive to Itireleng Task Team donating resources to make this project a success. We want to take this opportunity to thank the Boipatong community for their support as well because some of the community members sometimes contribute to the project in the form of food,” said Mofokeng.
