Police nab suspects, unlicensed firearms confiscated

Police said that both Vanderbijlpark and Bophelong areas have been experiencing several business robberies and car hijackings.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Police arrested five suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and 93 live ammunition in Vanderbijlpark recently. This follows after the members of Vanderbijlpark Task Team received a tip off from the community about asuspicious white Toyota Avanza making rounds in the area. Police followed up the suspected white Toyota Avanza and they instructed the driver to pull off the road before they searched it. Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said police stopped and searched the vehicle and two unlicensed firearms were found and 93 live ammunition. Makhale said both Vanderbijlpark and Bophelong areas have been experiencing several business robberies and car hijackings. “We will not rule out that suspects may be linked to the other crimes around our area,” she said. A case of possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunitions is been investigated.
