Business owners, community and taxi industry mobilise against violence and looting in Vereeniging

"As a precautionary measure, there is high police presence in the Vereeniging policing precinct. The taxi industry in the form of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has joined in the fight against crime."

VEREENIGING. – Business owners joined by members of the community, security companies, Community Policing Forum (CPF) and patrollers have joined forces with the SAPS in ensuring that there is no violence or looting in Vereeniging.

Although everyone is in a state of panic at the moment, there have been no reports of sporadic violence in the area.

This is according to Vereeniging Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda who confirmed that all forces on the ground were there as a security measure to ensure the protection of infrastructure and businesses.

“As a precautionary measure, there is high police presence in the Vereeniging policing precinct. The taxi industry in the form of the South African National Taxi Council

(SANTACO) has joined in the fight against crime.”

Altough no incidents have been reported, businesses chose to remain closed again today. Sedibeng Ster is monitoring the situation.
