Series of house break-ins reported to Vereeniging police
Vereeniging police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda has urged residents to beef up their security after a series of break-ins were reported in Three Rivers, Risiville and Bedworth Park recently.
“It is important to close all doors and security doors even when you are home.“ Funda further urged residents to secure their gate motors using safety brackets to prevent theft. Funda adds that ATM fraud is still rife and that people should be extra cautious. Funda advises people to refrain from making business transactions on social media as this often results in them getting defrauded. “There are many cases that have already been reported to the police regarding this. “Patrons coming to enjoy themselves in the CBD must be aware that there are people waiting to break into their cars. Don’t leave any valuables or jewellery on display. When driving in town, make sure your car windows are closed as they may rob you through your car window. “Our hotspots remain Mark-park and the taxi rank where crimes such as common robbery, robbery with weapons and theft out motor vehicles occurs.” Reporting on the number of arrests, Funda states that 17 people were arrested for possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, driving under the influence, shoplifting, possession of suspected stolen property, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, malicious damage to property and failure to wear a mask under the Disaster Management Act. “All the suspects have appeared in court.”
