Pirates and Chiefs fans put their rivalry on hold

“We are aware that most people lost their jobs because of the pandemic and we want to see these children looking smart when they go back to school."

MEYERTON.- Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs Midvaal supporters put their rivalry on hold when they rolled their sleeves for the needy community of Sicelo in Meyerton over the weekend.
These two clubs’ supporters, together with the Meyerton Taxi Association and Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) Roshnee Library, embarked on a ‘Back to School’ project and gave school uniforms and stationery to the less fortunate children of Sicelo.

The Midvaal Ward 9 Councillor, Mamokete Tabo also graced the event.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Tseleng Makhunone, who is the Orlando Pirates Meyerton Supporters Chairperson, said that the initiative was meant to help the children whose parents lost their jobs due to COVID-19.

“We are aware that most people lost their jobs because of the pandemic and we want to see these children looking smart when they go back to school. Each and every child deserves a better education,” she said.
Her sentiments were echoed by her counterpart from Kaizer Chiefs, Alinah Mokoena, who said that they were overwhelmed by how much the community appreciated their effort.
The pair told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they intend to embark on several initiatives in the month of March for elderly people.
