Trapped ArcelorMittal workers found dead

VANDERBIJPARK. – Numsa has confirmed that the three of its workers who were trapped at ArcelorMittal's Vanderbijlpark operation have died.

According to reports this happened after a portion of a 90-meter stack collapsed and fell onto a battery control room after an explosion at 2AM on Wednesday morning. https://twitter.com/Numsa_Media/status/1362282799277948930 Numsa’s regional Secretary Sedibeng, Kabelo Ramokhathali said: “This is devastating news especially for the families of the victims of this terrible incident. They have been waiting anxiously hoping that their loved ones would be found alive. Unfortunately that was not to be. We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who have passed away.” The Metalworkers union has called on the Department of Employment and Labour to embark on a detailed and thorough investigation into the cause of this incident. “We have a long and painful history with ArcelorMittal and its brutal management which has demonstrated time and time again that Black Lives do not matter. Numsa has accused ArcelorMittal of dragging their feet in searching for the 3 workers. “We had to compel them to intensify the search and to seek help from mine companies in order to recover our fallen comrades.” They dragged their feet and it took pressure of the union and public pressure from the media to get them to take this more seriously.”
