SEBOKENG.- A group of protesters, dominated mostly by men, marched to the Sebokeng Police Station recently where they demanded the removal of officers they called ‘lazy’ in dealing with rape cases at the Vereeniging FCS.
The group said that they are being ignored by the South African Police Service (SAPS) members when they open cases of rape and gender-based violence (GBV) at most police stations in Sedibeng. Taking to the streets to present their frustrations at the Sebokeng Police Station on 24 January, the protesters said they had enough of the poor services they are experiencing.
The angry community members also demanded that three alleged ‘lazy’ female police officers at FCS offices in Vereeniging must step down with immediate effect as they are not effective in their duties. “We are expecting to be served by women who know our frustrations,” they said.
They further alleged that bribery is very high at the police stations.
“The suspects bribe the officers to put cases ‘under the table’. Since the surge of COVID-19, police seem to have lost focus.”
The protester’s complainants were forwarded to the FCS by the officers from the Sebokeng Police Station.
Captain Tebogo Lephoto, Police Spokesperson said the matter has been escalated to the Sedibeng District Office of the police.
