VEREENIGING.- Futballing Girls in conjunction with Gauteng Sports Confederation and the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) launched their inaugural Women in Sports Awards in Sedibeng over the weekend.

The awards are schedule to take place at the end of March.
This auspicious ceremony is aimed at celebrating and empowering women in the sporting fraternity in South Africa. The initiative started in 2018 and was hosted by Ekurhuleni. It extended interest to the West Rand, City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane and now it will be held in Sedibeng. Its aim is to unleash the power in which women hold in their respective sporting codes.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Futballing Girls Founder, Moonira Ramathula said this expansion will ensure that more women and girls are recognized for their commitment and passion in the field of sports. “Look, recognizing and uplifting new talent among our young girls in sports will impact the transformation of women in sports. Our partnership with the SDM will ensure the community a buy-in and growth in participation in terms of number of girls taking part in sports and in leadership positions within different sports,” she said.
This sports gala event will be streamed virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic using links on the Futballing Girls, Gauteng Sports Confederation and Sedibeng District Municipality websites.
The nomination period was from 15 January – 5 February.
