Woolworths promises 100% renewable electricity

Retail giant Woolworths Group has joined RE100 initiative with a pledge to power all of its operations with 100 percent renewable electricity.

Woolworths Group has announced that it will power its entire operations with renewable electricity by 2025, on the road to net positive carbon emissions by at least 2050.

The ambitious power pledge is part of the retail group’s newly announced Sustainability Plan, which charts its path to 2025.

This reputable retail brand plans to install solar panels on the roofs of stores and distribution centres, signing power purchase agreements with wind and solar energy providers and co-investing to build new renewable energy projects.

They also plan to make its operations net carbon positive – rather than net neutral – by 2050 if not before.

Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci said moving to 100 per cent renewable electricity was the right thing for the retail giant to do, and something a growing number of customers, team members and shareholders expected it to lead on.
