WATCH: Doctor and friends live it up before boat capsizes and five drown
VEREENIGING. – A video which purportedly shows the last minutes leading up to a boat accident on the Vaal River which lead to the drowning of five people on Saturday 17th October 2020 is causing a stir on social media.
The accident claimed the life of dr. Khotso Mohlomi (38), a young urologist from Mediclinic Vereeniging, and four others.
The video shows Mohlomi and several others live it up on the packed boat. Some of the men can be seen holding drinks while singing a song in Sotho. The words of the song “moratuwa ne ke orata” can roughly be translated to “My Love, I have loved you”.
Several Facebook users were quick to point out the fact that nobody on the boat seem to be wearing life jackets.
The boat capsized on Saturday 17 October near Spider Vallley, a stretch of the Vaal River between Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark. It is alleged that water accumulated in the boat, eventually causing the boat to flip over. Five of the seven people onboard drowned.
