7 suspects nabbed with ARV’s worth R1.9m

Seven suspects traveling to Kroonstad from the Gauteng province, were arrested by authorities in possession of stolen ARV tablets with an estimated value of over R1,9 million.

According to Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, the group, which includes five men and two women between the ages 31 and 39 years old respectively, will appear before the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court soon for contravening the Medicine Act.

“Four suspects are from Sebokeng in Vereeniging, one Lesotho foreign national staying in Welkom, one from Phuthaditjhaba and one from Theunissen.

The group was planning on selling the drugs to a potential buyer in Welkom.”

“They were found in possession of 1272 containers of ARV tablets to the estimated value of R1 908 000.  The tablets and a Chevrolet Cruz were confiscated.”

The suspects will be charged on Contravention of Medicine Act and will appear at Kroonstad Magistrate court.
