Mountain bikers return to racing

DALESIDE. - Last weekend saw the return of mountain bike racing when about 250 mountain bikers took on various races at the Fast One MTB 2020 held at Café du Cirque in Daleside.

Jan Withaar was crowned the king of the 65km event after finishing in a time of 02:21:57. The rider from the 24/7 Security Services managed to maintain an average speed of 27.5 km in this challenging course despite getting lost at one stage.
Andreas Kuhn (+01:11) from the Devil’s Peak Brewing Company Cycling Team managed to etch out a second place after the Nelspruit rider suffered a sidewall puncture along the way.

Jan Withaar of 24/7 Security Services Cycling Team won the event in a time of 02:21:57, despite getting lost at one stage.

It was Casper Kruger from TEG Racing Team and Calvin Beneke from ProTouch Racing Team who battled it out for third place on the podium. Beneke (+02:29) eventually gained the upper hand with Kruger (+02:37) finishing in a noteworthy fourth place.
* Mariske Smith won the 65km ladies’ race in a time of 02:59:27, with Yvonne Cornes (+21:23) taking the second place and Candice Ferdinandi in the third place (+23:04).

Andreas Kuhn from Nelspruit finished second
after suffering a sidewall puncture during the race.

* Johan Fourie de Villiers won the 35km race in a time of 01:17:17 with Francois Botes (+00:01) second and Boela van Staden (+01:24) third.
* Ronel van Straaten won the 35km ladies’ race in a time of 01:22:29. Cyanda Bekker (+07:05) finished second and Natalie Long (+08:58) third.

This mountain bike race was presented by Spectrum Sport Events and hosted by Café du Cirque, a popular meeting place for mountain bikers in Daleside. The easing of lockdown regulations recently saw a resurgence in mountain bike races; On the same weekend that the Fast One MTB 2020 was held in Daleside, the Nissan Trailseeker MTB Series was held at Van Gaalen Cheese Farm in North West. According to the official results of the Fast One MTB 2020, 152 riders participated in the 65km race, while 59 riders took on the 30km-race.
The two 10km races saw a combined 35 riders competing.
