Midvaal gives residents Covid-19 tax and rates relief

Midvaal Local Municipality has given residents an additional R70 000 exemption on the municipal valuation of residential properties through the Covid-19 rates and tax relief programme.

MIDVAAL. – MLM’s Communication Officer Kagiso Korae says, “The Property Rates Policy with the changes to include the Disaster Management rebate was approved at a Council Meeting on 28 May 2020.

“Residential Customers will receive an additional rebate based on R70 000 of their municipal valuation. This rebate will apply from July 1st until Council decides otherwise.”

Korae said that residents are aware that all complete residential properties get the first R150 000 rates and taxes free meaning that with the R70 000, the amount had increased to R 220 000.

“This will be for the duration of the declared State of Disaster by the national government. We would like to emphasise the importance of wearing masks in public spaces, washing and sanitizing your hands on a regular basis, and social distance as cases of Covid-19 continue to spike.”
