BOIPATONG. – An Independent Police Investigation Department (Ipid) investigation is underway into the mysterious death of a suspect while in police holding cells at the Boipatong Police station recently.
The suspect allegedly died after foaming at the mouth during the few hours he was left in the cell on 26 June.
The suspect was charged with arson. Mxolise Victor Mazibuko (53) allegedly set a girlfriend’s house alight in Muvhango, Bophelong, on fire before disappearing. He was later arrested.
Provincial police spokesperson, Captain Msondo said the arrest of the suspect came after he was wanted for arson.
After being arrested on that early morning of 26 June, he was expected to briefly appear at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates court before his mysterious death.
Mazibuko’s death is being investigated.
