Owner suspects arson at tavern

The owner said he had been running his business from this location for over 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – The owner of Black Star Tavern in Vanderbijlpark suspects arson to be the cause of the fire that razed his business in Feranani Street, CW 5 on Thursday afternoon.

The owner, Mnguni Ntseoane says that what makes him believe the fire was set alight on purpose is that it was clear that the fire started outside on the grass roof of the Lapa attached to his business. The roof of the Lapa was attached to the wall fence.

When asked about the damage, he responded that according to his own investigations it was too early to tell. Ntseoane said that he cannot believe that there was someone out there to hurt his business as he was on good terms with his clients and everyone in the neighbourhood.

The owner said he had been running his business from this location for over 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened.

“Thanks that no one was injured as we had already closed for business. The fire and rescue team arrived but by that time, the neighbours were hard at fighting the blaze.”

He thanks neighbours, passersby, and fellow business people for their quick response.
