Potso Mohami: From the dusty streets of Bophelong to SAFA’s most powerful female administrator

VANDERBIJLPARK.- with football activities still on hold all over the world, Sedibeng Ster Sport hooked up with one of the most powerful young female football administrator to have come from Sedibeng.

No doubt, Potso Mohami has potential to become a powerful figure in South African football as she has demonstrated in her early days at SAFA National office.
She joined SAFA through an Internship Programme after completing Sports Management at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in 2005.
Because for her passion and dedication for her job, she was employed as an Executive Support in the CEO’s office.
This was during the era of former Safa President Molife Oliphant.
Mohami’s break in football was when she was part of SAFA’s Local Organising Committee in preparation for the 2010 World Cup as a Protocol Officer.
This didn’t come as a surprise when she was granted an opportunity by COSAFA to be an Assistant General Coordinator (AGC) for Women Championship which was held in Port Elizabeth.
This was in 2008 and the same year she had opportunity to advance her administration expertise an an AGC for Regional Five Games in Botswana.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, this beautiful young woman said she grew up surrounded by football people with her parents involved in the now defunct soccer team, Early Birds FC.
“What I enjoy the most about working in football is being part of the milestones that the association is achieving in line with SAFA 2020 Vision. I believe being a woman gives me an advantage in my job because as we all know, football is a male dominated industry as a woman your suggestions and decisions seems to be more respected than those of your male counterparts’, said Mohami.
No doubt, taking into consideration experienced football administrators that she developed her or work alongside her, Mohami is one of the young women destined to lead SAFA in the near future.
For example  through her vast football knowledge, COSAFA appointed her to perform duties as a general coordinator for CAF All African Games hosted in Morocco recent years.
This was when SAFA realised Mohami’s leadership qualities and appointed her to manage the Sasol Sponsorship for Banyana Banyana and Sasol Women League last month.
But being involved in the  preparation of the 2010 World Cup will remains her fondest memory in her football administration career.
