Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize announced today (Friday) that the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in South Africa currently stands at 2 003.
He further noted these numbers are as of midnight the previous night and are bound to rise in batches.
As of today, 10 April, the number of Covid-19 tests conducted is 73 028 and there have been 24 confirmed deaths attributed to the virus.
Breakdown of deaths is as follows:
* Gauteng – 3
* Western Cape – 6
* KwaZulu-Natal – 12
* Free State – 3
It is important to note that except for two cases, the deceased’s ages are 63 and upwards. The department of health has also noted that people with co-existing diseases succumb quicker.
“Our health workers are fighting in a heroic way and the number of recoveries stands at 410 people,” Mkhize stated.
