“The suspect was recently sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm. We celebrate this victory because the suspect is now serving his years and justice has once again prevailed!” Letsele concludes.

VEREENIGING. -Sergeant Maki Mathe, working in the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Vereeniging, has been applauded for her diligent work.

This is after she investigated an attempted rape incident that occurred in De-Deur last year, managing to send the perpetrator to five years imprisonment.

Constable Maria Letsele says, “The man entered the victim’s house in the early hours of 23 June 2019, he got into her bed and tried to rape her. The woman fought back and was able to scream for help. The man was able to lock the door, preventing the community from coming inside the house, and managed to escape through the window.”

An attempted rape case was opened and given to Sergeant Maki Mathe, in the FCS Unit, for further investigation.

Mathe is said to have worked tirelessly, collecting evidence and ensuring that the matter goes to trial.

“The suspect was recently sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm. We celebrate this victory because the suspect is now serving his years and justice has once again prevailed!” Letsele concludes.
