The National Arts Council (NAC) is pleased to announce a call for international bursary applications for the 2020/21 academic year. This study funding opportunity is for postgraduate studies in the relevant arts fields supported by the NAC.

Particular attention will be paid to applications for postgraduate qualifications that address rare skills required in the South African arts sector in support of the following five NAC funding programmes: Social cohesion and nation-building; Innovation, design and creation; Arts platforms; Strategic initiatives and Capacity building.

The invitation applies to candidates intending to pursue postgraduate studies in the arts at an international institution during the 2020/21 academic year. The applicable postgraduate qualifications include honours and master’s degrees, doctorates, master classes and residency programmes.

The grant will be renewable for the duration of the course, subject to the successful completion of each year of study and with adherence to the conditions of the grant.
The student’s average marks should not be less than 65%; and the course applied for should not be offered in South Africa. The grant in its entirety will not exceed R250 000 per individual candidate, and is subject to NAC approval.

● Closing date for applications: 31 January 2020 at 5pm
● Notification of outcomes: 30 April 2020
