VANDERBIJLPARK.- Sedibeng hosted a successful Gauteng Rural Farm Schools Sports Festival at Isak Steyl Stadium and Cecil Oldridge Park on Friday.
This Gauteng Rural Farm School Sports Festival was hosted by the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation Sedibeng with the main aim of giving the rural farm learners an opportunity to showcase their talents. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the Gauteng Department of Sports Sport Promotion Officer, Nkosinathi Nolusu hailed the event a success. The sporting codes in this festival were soccer, netball, chess, kgathi and morabaraba to mention just few.
Nolusu said seeing these rural farm school learners having fun was overwhelming. “These kids are not exposed to the things that other children are exposed to when it comes to opportunities because of their living environment. It was heart-warming to see them having fun. They were really excited and I must say that they are very talented and I have no doubt some of them will go far not only with sports but in life,” he said.
Nulusu said that he believes that this kind of programme is needed in the disadvantaged communities.
