BOPHELONG. – The family was left with the night wear they wore after a fire engulfed their two bedroom house. The owner of the RDP house, Mapitso Mokgotlwane (49), of Extension 17, said they were sleeping in another separate house when the children screamed for help.
“At the time, we rushed to check on what happened, we were welcomed by a black cloud seeping from the house.

“We managed to pull out few items we within reach, while avoiding the spiting fire.” The neighbours tried to control the flames with soil and water but it was to no avail. Mokgotlwane, who is an unemployed mother of three, said everything she worked so hard for is gone.
She estimated the damage to R60 000 this includes building materials, documents and clothes have been destroyed. When approaching
councillors regarding her RDP house, her request fell on deaf ears. I was told that my extra room was not built through municipality plan
approval. “I am relieved and happy after knocking on Ikhaya Hardwarehe’s door because the owner, Mohammed Kader, did not hesitate to assist me.” Kader and his manager, Teboho Mokoena, made sure they brought smiles back to the family. “We provide material as part of giving back to the community. Together with the community we need one another,” said Kader..
