Plus size is Fabulous: Moeketsi

VEREENIGING. - Women have had enough of society’s definition of beauty and they are slowly recreating the meaning of the word in a way that has never been done before.

42-year-old Semakaleng Moeketsi, who is currently in the running to becoming the next Miss Gauteng Plus Size, believes that this is the only way it should be done. “As women, we were made to believe that beauty is about how you look, that includes your body shape and size and it was engraved in our minds psychologically.
Our mothers were also called fat and could not embrace their bodies. Now we are woke and we are Plus Size Women and we say Plus size is fabulous.”
Moeketsi is an advocate for women and is part of many movements that contribute to the empowerment of women in the Vaal Triangle.
“I aspire to change the narrative of Black Women not doing enough in their communities. I want my children to be proud of me. When I lost my mother last year, I learnt how she has inspired most people. She (Moleboheng, Puleng) lived her purpose and touched lives. I want to live an influential life like her.” Talking about why she entered the pageant, Moeketsi says, “One of the reasons for entering the pageant was that I give so much and I hardly make time to appreciate myself. “Ever since I have entered the pageant, I think of myself as a pageant and that allows me to put
myself first. I think every woman deserves that.”
Moeketsi urges the Vaal Fraternity to vote for her, saying that she is their girl. “I am your girl, My win is everyone’s win. I represent that
young girl who continuously tries to loose weight. I also represent that woman who looks fabulous and wants everyone to know that they have arrived.
