Councillor Peter Verbeek of Emfuleni’s Ward 10, writes:
In the early hours (00:39) of Monday, 2nd of September 2019, a fire broke out on the top floor of the Siemens Hoff complex. Mr Dawie Jordaan (Ward 10 Ward Committee member) arrived in the presence of the SAPS, the Ambulance Service and the Fire Department from Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging and Evaton. Subsequently followed by the arrival of the Sedibeng Disaster Management.
In the days following this fire, support was received from the CW 3 Street Watch (Danie Jordaan and Marieta Jordaan), Fat Cakes on Wheels for providing fat cakes, the CW 3 community, the broader community of Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging, broader society in the form of clothes and food, Mr Andrew Agrella (owner of the Killarney Hotel) in the form of providing those that have lost everything a place to stay as well as a basis for logistical arrangements, through Mr Pieter Nieuwenhuizen of the Sedibeng Disaster Management, the Red Cross in the form of mattresses and blankets, and Al-Imdaad Foundation that provided sanitary packages to residents.
