Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, warns the public regarding the rising theft of motor vehicles especially in the Three River vicinity.

VEREENIGING. – Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, warns the public regarding the rising theft of motor vehicles especially in the Three River vicinity.

Captain Funda states that the targetted make of the vehicle is the VW Polo.

“We would like to further warn members of the community not to display their jewellery and IT equipment when in the Vereeniging CBD, as there are robbers roaming about. The theft of gate motors is an ongoing problem and we urge the community to paint their motors with bright colours and make sure they are secured.”

Speaking on ‘cash for jobs’ scams, Captain Funda urges members of the community to stop paying money to individuals in exchange for jobs.

“The total number of house robberies reported this past week is high, therefore we implore home owners to warn their helpers not to open for people that pretend to be contractors.

“Criminals pretend to talk to the home owner on the phone to fool the helper into opening for them. They will then enter, fasten the helper’s hands, blindfold her and seize anything they can lay their hands on, then leave her there, stranded.”

Captain Funda further states that the Vereeniging police managed to arrest a total of 27 people for various crimes, “All the arrested people have appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate Court.”
