Decorating your rental property

If you’ve recently rented your first property, you’ll be aware that you are limited in the changes you can make when personalising it. Fear not, there are number of ways to make a house or apartment feel like home without permanent changes.

If you’re living in a rental property, you’ll no doubt know that certain upgrades and decoration projects are prohibited. This can feel extremely limiting, and while it’s not your own property, you still want it to feel like home. Renting property is a popular option for South Africans today, higher cost of living together with political instability has led a number of people to choose rent, in Vereeniging and beyond. Fortunately for those renting, there are still ways to make the flat or house feel like home.

Add blinds

Pre-made blinds are both easy to install and easy to take to take down. Whether the windows are bare, or the landlords have left their old schools curtains behind that you’re not a fan of, a simple bamboo blind will make the world of difference to the room. When you leave you can simply take the rod down and patch up the wall if needs. Pre-made blinds are both stylish and functional.

Replace the shower heads

Is the shower head in your new rental outdated, mouldy or just doesn’t do the job for you? It’s a simple job to take off the old shower head, replacing it with a new one and putting the old one back before you leave the property. If you’d prefer to speak to replace the shower head permanently, there’s no harm in speaking to your landlord and asking if they’d be willing to replace it.

Hang art

Placing art on the walls need not be done with the use of nails, causing permanent changes and possible damage to the walls. There are a number of ways to include your art in the property, adhesive hooks and double sided strips are perfect for placing paintings and pictures on the walls temporarily and are easy to remove. On the other hand, if you’re wary of sticking things onto the walls or have been specifically told not to, mantelpieces, and large bookcases are the perfect place to display smaller paintings, photo frames and vases.

While a property may not be yours, there are certainly a number of ways to personalise and make it feel like home while not making permanent changes.
