SEDIBENG.- It is that time of the year when the Sedibeng Regional Masters Football Association teams look forward to compete in the Mkhonto Cup scheduled to take place at various venues on Sunday.

This annual masters’ soccer tournament was launched over the weekend.

Speaking at the launch Johnny “Mkhonto” Radebe said this initiative is no mere money-making scheme but helps improve the standard of football in this region.

He said the masters that win  this tournament must make sure that they help development teams in their community.

Radebe told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he will stop hosting this tournament if the masters’ teams neglect the development of football in this region.

“The main purpose of the tournament is not to enrich these masters’ soccer teams but be part of the development.

“This time around I will make sure that the winners buy soccer kits and donate them to development soccer teams in the area or else I will take this tournament to development soccer teams,” he told Sedibeng Ster Sport.

Sedibeng Regionals Masters Football Association publicist Martin Mpholo echoed Radebe’s sentiments that the masters’ soccer teams must help the development of football in this region. The tournament has been divided into four groups.
