Local gospel choirs win national awards

SEDIBENG.- Four local choirs recently made Sedibeng proud at the Annual National Mmino’s Clap and Tap Awards held at the Emperors Place in Kempton park over the weekend.

The awards are indigenous traditional African Gospel Music Awards that acknowledge the power of art, vocal ability, unity and strength of praise and worship. The awards also celebrate and sustain Africa’s indigenous traditional gospel music.

The local four choirs and members that came out tops are Damaseka E Ncha (CD of the Year and Video of the Year), the Joints Gospel Singers (Best Male Vocalist, Lucky Lephoi), St Hosea Gospel Choir (Best Conductor) and St Matthews Church Choir (Best Church Choir).

One choir is from Boipatong while three are from Sebokeng. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Butana Dikutle from Damaseka E Ncha said that they are grateful for the support that they received and continue to receive from the Emfuleni Local Municipality and the community at large.
