Metsi-a-Lekoa workers demand better protective equipment text

All four branches (Sebokeng, Evaton, Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging) decided not to work on the day as part of their protest to force management to give in to their requests.

VANDERBIJLPARK . –  The employees of Metsi-a-Lekoa, a utility of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) laid tools down as they demanded Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on Tuesday morning.

All four branches (Sebokeng, Evaton, Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging) decided not to work on the day as part of their protest to force management to give in to their requests.
Picketing outside the entrances while showing their torn overalls, workers said they had enough. They threatened to continue with their strike until their demands were met. Sampie Shivambu, acting manager of Metsi-a-Lekoa, told Sedibeng Ster that they are in the process of solving the matter.
In the meantime all basic services had stopped while management tried to engage the workers.
