Salvation Army no longer active in the Vaal

The Salvation Army was closed in Vereeniging in 2015 and has no operational business here anymore, says Carin Holmes, Territorial Public Relations Secretary of the Salvation Army

VEREENIGING. – The Salvation Army was closed in Vereeniging in 2015 and has no operational business here anymore, says Carin Holmes, Territorial Public Relations Secretary of the Salvation Army.

“We closed down our Church in 2015 and sold the property to a doctor across the road from the then church,” Carin says.

The Goodwill Centre has also been closed in 2015/6 and the property is now sold.

“What is happening is that people living at our old premises are telling those less fortunate coming to seek assistance, that The Salvation Army cannot help them… those less fortunate are not any the wiser and phone or ask on the Salvation Army’s Facebook why we are not assisting the poor.

“I also believe that people are dropping off goods and old clothing and sometimes food at the old premises under the impression that it is still the Salvation Army and then can’t understand why we do not respond with a thank you letter or Tax Certificate for monetary funds.

“It would be in the best interest of everybody living in Vereeniging if a notice goes into Ster just stating the above message,” says Carin.
