NWU Vanderbijlpark celebrates cream of matriculant crop

This year the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark welcomed not only a record number of first-year students, but also the cream of the matriculant crop of the South Gauteng region.

 
VANDERBIJLPARK. – This year the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark welcomed not only a record number of first-year students, but also the cream of the matriculant crop of the South Gauteng region.

During a recent celebratory event, members of the campus management took time out of their busy schedules to meet up with the top 30 members of the campus’s first-year fraternity.

In her address, Prof Linda du Plessis, the deputy vice-chancellor for planning and Vanderbijlpark operations, congratulated the students with their performance in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam and motivated them to continue their studies with the same enthusiasm and vigour.

The top two performing students, Faheema Moosa and Jestus Fouché, each received a brand new tablet from Prof Du Plessis. Faheema completed her matric at High School Three Rivers in Vereeniging with a total of eight distinctions and an overall average of 91,5%. She is currently enrolled in the BCom CA programme. Jestus completed his high school career at Destinata High School in Meyerton and achieved distinctions in six subjects. His overall average was 90% and he also has his sight set on becoming a chartered accountant.

The top 30 learners represented the following schools: Three Rivers High School, Destinata, Hoërskool Transvalia, Hoërskool Driehoek, Afrikaans Hoër Sasolburg, Vulanindlela High School, Makgetse High School, Dr Malan Hoërskool, Roshnee Islamic School, Beverly Hills High School, Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark, Fundulwazi High School, Sasolburg Hoërskool, Khutlo Tharo Secondary School, Barnard Malokoane High School, Hoërskool Overvaal, Ezokwasi Secondary School and Rantsane Secondary School.

Faheema Moosa and Jestus Fouché are the two top performers of the Class of 2017. Both are studying towards a BCom Chartered Accountancy degree.
