VEREENIGING. – Police are investigating a rape incident after a woman reported that she was raped by a taxi driver early this year. The incident happened on April 29 when the woman was on her way to visit her boyfriend in Vereeniging.
Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says, ” The complainant alleges that on Saturday 2017.04.29. at about 18:30, she boarded a taxi from Richmond Unitaspark to Vereeniging to visit her boyfriend.
“She was the only passenger in the taxi, she told the driver that she will get off at Kruger Street in Vereeniging but the driver did not stop and instead drove to an open veld next to the cemetery in De Deur and raped her. She further said that he left her there when he was done.”
The suspect is about 45 years of age, dark in complexion, 1.7m tall, has a big belly and spots on his face. Any person that can recognise the suspect can call the nearest police station, crime stop on 0800 10111 or the investigating officer sergeant Thabo Ramoipone on 016450 2566 or 072240 4421.
