Five arrested for selling stolen laptops in Vanderbijlpark

The arrest was made during the transaction and it was then discovered that one of the laptops was Emfuleni Local Municipality property which was stolen last week Saturday.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Five people have been arrested for selling stolen property to the public. The arrest was made the Vanderbijlpark SAPS Crime Prevention Unit led by Sergeant Mahlasi.

The team received a tip-off from a reliable source, who told police that there were about five suspects selling stolen property at a shop in Vanderbijlpark and that the culprits were also advertising the property on social media.

Police spokesperson warrant officer Simon Mofokatsane says, ” The Source ordered 20 laptops from the culprits online and and it was arranged that he come and collect them from the store. Mahlasi together with his team followed the source to the shop. The arrest was made during the transaction and it was then discovered that one of the laptops was Emfuleni Local Municipality property which was stolen last week Saturday.

Mofokatsane adds that the other laptops were also stolen from various big companies. All the suspects were charged with possession of stolen property and they will appear in the Vanderbijlpark magistrate court on 09 October. Mofokatsane further urged members of the community to refrain from buying stolen property as it would lend them up in hot water.
