Police crackdown on car thieves operating in Three Rivers

VEREENIGING. – Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda reports that following the recent arrest of two suspects, no car theft cases have been reported in three rivers.

The arrest, was a result of a tip off received by police of suspected car thieves in Three Rivers. “Our members rushed to the corner of Bashee and ring Road, on arrival they found a silver grey VW Jetta 4 parked on the pavement and a bystander pointed out the owners were.
“The persons then confirmed that the car is theirs. When asked for permission for the car to be searched, they gave it.
“Our members then continued to search the car where they discovered numerous car computers boxes, smart key makers, Immobilizer boxes, various keys, tools for car theft, hand gloves, different extra number plates, vehicle ignitions, sharpened Allen keys used to force open door locks and ignitions.”
Funda adds that te culprits were arrested and detained at Vereeniging police station. “Further investigations are being done by our officers.” Funda further reports that a total of 15 people were arrested by police for various crimes. “Arrested persons will appear in court soon.”
“People coming to do business in the CBD are urged to keep their windows closed. We further want to warn people not to display their jewellery because there are robbers roaming around.” Funda concludes adding that the theft of motor bikes has gone up in Three Rivers and that the community is urged to keep them in lockable garages.
