Easter road carnage

Meanwhile eighteen people were left injured on Thursday evening after two taxis collided head-on on the R57 in Sasolburg. ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found two wrecked taxis on the side of the road.

SEDIBENG. – Twenty five people were injured on Friday morning after the bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the R82 near the Grasmere turn-off.

ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene to find a One-ton bakkie lying on the side of the road. The canopy of the bakkie had been completely ripped off. Numerous patients were found scattered around the scene. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that a total of 25 had been injured. Three had sustained serious injuries while 22 had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries and the seriously injured provided with advanced life support interventions. The patients were thereafter transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment. It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll and eject the occupants off the back of the vehicle.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found numerous occupants from the taxis walking around on the scene.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that eighteen patients had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported on the scene. The patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment. The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
