Bryneven’s learners stepped up for the school’s Got Talent show

This year’s Bryneven’s Got Talent was an instant classic as far as variety shows in Sandton go.

Stars in the making took to the stage at Bryanston based Bryneven Primary School, when it hosted parents and staff to this year’s installment of Bryneven’s Got Talent.

Each of the 20 learners who performed at the event, held at the school on September 6, displayed immeasurable heart, commitment, and showmanship the likes of which the school can be proud of.

This year’s programme was masterfully MC’d by Sandton based acclaimed actor Craig Urbani, and judged by a panel comprising of voice artist Themba Robin, Proteas cricketer Kagiso Rabada, and Bryneven’s legendary music teacher June Clayton.

In traditional order, the show was split into two parts with an interval, each parts beginning with performances from the previous years’ junior and senior ‘got talent’ division winners.

The team of judges had their work cut out for them, as Bryneven’s performers each bore their soul on the stage.

Sharon Ashe, one of the teachers who worked closely with the learners towards making the event the resounding success it was, said that learners started preparing for the night from July 16.

“We’ve got singers, dancers, a guitarist, a pianist, and a yo-yo trickster,” said a proud Ashe. “We’ve had rehearsals once a week since then, ahead of rehearsals every day this whole week. We had a dress rehearsal yesterday, and another run-through before the show.”

This year’s show was an instant classic: from junior phase winner Dylan Alers’ (Gr R) opening performance of a Toy Story themed dance routine, all the way to the final performance – where the school’s teachers took to the stage for a dance they’d rehearsed for closing the show. The senior phase winner at the event was Gr 5 learner Anjana Ashok, who perfectly performed her traditional Indian dance routine. Both winners walked away from the event with cheques valued at R1 500 for their brilliant performances.
