A shave to help those in need

Brescia House School showed its solidarity with people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment by shaving their hair for them to make wigs.

The Brescia House School community once again came together on March 24 to show their support for the Cancer Association of South Africa and the Childhood Cancer Foundation of SA.

Staff and learners showed their support through donations, the purchase of ribbons, and the ultimate act of generosity by donating at least 25 cm of their precious locks to make wigs for those who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy treatment.

The head of French at the school, Martin Perold, a cancer survivor, shaved off his hair in solidarity.

Meghan Daniel, Amy Richardson, Claudia Chang, Georgia Moody, Ashley Botha, Thea Holdt, and Kristen Cikes followed suit by donating 25 cm of their hair to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Sarah Handley and Devina Bhula showed their love and support by shaving all of their long hair in support of this event.

Helga Bishop, head of marketing and admissions at the school, said those who were not able to donate their hair were still able to show their support by donating funds and weaving ribbons through their hair for the day.

“The spirit of unity and support was evident throughout the day, as staff and students shared their personal stories and experiences with the school. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this initiative. Your kindness and generosity will have a lasting impact on those who need it most.”
